Looking for In-Home Care? See All Services
Remember that first deployment, the camaraderie, the sense of purpose? At Your Side honors that service with in-home care designed specifically for veterans, regardless of discharge status, wartime service, or service-connected disability.
As you age or recover from injuries, everyday tasks can become more challenging. You don't have to face these challenges alone. Here's how our caregivers empower you to maintain your independence and live comfortably at home.
To qualify for Veterans Benefits, seniors must:
Depending on the qualifications and needs of the veteran, veterans benefits may cover all or a large portion of home care services. Even veterans who do not qualify to receive veterans benefits may be able to deduct the costs of home care when calculating regular pension benefits. This new countable income may allow families receiving no more than a pension to receive a disability income in addition.
Our caregivers can assist with daily living activities, such as showering, dressing, and managing medications so that you can maintain your routine and continue feeling like yourself at home.
Military service can leave its mark, both visible and invisible. Our caregivers are trained to understand these challenges, from physical limitations to the emotional weight veterans often carry. We work hand-in-hand with families and healthcare providers to create a specialized in-home care plan that honors your service and supports your well-being.
At Your Side’s commitment to veterans extends beyond the walls of your home. A strong support system is crucial to well-being, so we offer a comprehensive approach to veteran care. While this includes empowering veterans with in-home care to maintain their independence, our services go further to ensure you receive the VA benefits you’re entitled to.
Receiving your benefits can feel like an uphill battle; At Your Side simplifies the process. Too many veterans don't get the help they need because they either get overwhelmed or don't realize these benefits are available. We're proud to serve veterans by helping them confirm their eligibility, gather the necessary documentation, and navigate the VA system, ensuring they receive the support they deserve.
Veterans who need help with daily activities (ADLs) like bathing, dressing, or eating may qualify for VA In-Home Care through several different programs. These programs include the Community Care Network (CCN), VA Aid and Attendance, and more.
To be eligible, you typically need assistance with at least three ADLs. VA Aid and Attendance has additional requirements, such as needing help with ADLs, being housebound due to disability, or staying in bed for most of the day.
VA In-Home Care programs offer various services depending on your needs, including:
VA In-Home Care programs are flexible. As your needs change, the level of care you receive can be adjusted accordingly. This means you can start with basic assistance like meal preparation and gradually add services like skilled nursing care or physical therapy if necessary. Your in-home care provider will work with you to ensure your care plan adapts to your evolving needs, allowing you to remain comfortable and independent at home for as long as possible.
There are a few ways to apply for VA Home Care. You can fill out VA Form 21-2680 (Examination for Housebound Status or Permanent Need for Regular Aid and Attendance) and mail it to the VA Pension Management Center for your state. Your doctor can also complete part of the form. If you prefer an in-person application, you can also visit your nearest Veteran Affairs regional office.
Once you submit your application, a VA case manager will contact you to schedule an assessment. This evaluation will determine the level of care you require and the specific services you qualify for. After the assessment, the VA will either authorize services directly or provide you with a list of approved home care providers in your area. At this point, you have the freedom to choose your preferred provider, such as At Your Side, a trusted partner with extensive experience serving Veterans nationwide.
Each office is independently owned and operated and is an equal opportunity employer. At Your Side operates as At Your Side in the Houston area.
